Lost a Pet?
If you have lost a pet, you will want to act quickly.

Search the area.

Check with neighbors or people who live in the area where your pet was lost.

Report your lost pet to your microchip company if your pet is microchipped.

Post on area Facebook Lost & Found page(s). In the Springfield, MO area, the most commonly used one is Leigh's Lost & Found.

Post on Petco Love Lost where they use facial recognition to help match your lost pet with pets that are reported as found or are in rescues or shelters.
Found a Pet?
Most lost pets are close to home. Follow these steps to reunite the pet you found with its owner.

Check the pet for an ID tag.

Go door to door to see if the neighbors in the area know the pet. Leave a note on their door if no one is home that includes a description of the pet and a way to contact you.

If you live in the city limits of a town with animal control services, contact them. That is where the owner will likely be looking for their pet.

Have the pet scanned for a microchip. We can do that at Polk County Humane Society, or any other rescue or veterinarian's office will do it for free!

If you cannot find the owner, get on the waiting list for an area rescue. Most shelters and rescues stay full and may not be able to take the animal immediately. To get on our waitlist at Polk County Humane Society, use the links on this page: Resources.
